Services included

African Mountain Adventures is a tour operator in the service sector and will:
  • Provide leadership in the form of a THETA accredited expedition officer who is fit, responsible and knowledgeable about all aspects of the target expedition area and general aspects of first aid/rescue.
  • Book accommodation at expedition locations (if applicable) on behalf of clients.
  • Perform all logistical planning which is associated with a successful trip and a satisfied client.
  • Meet clients at a predetermined point in one or more of the large centres in South Africa.
  • Provide transport to and from the expedition location by means of a vehicle that is suited to the terrain to be covered.
  • Provide specialised expedition gear in the form of backpacks, tents, cooking stoves, climbing equipment, etc. for use by the party at the expedition location. It is only necessary to bring along personal items such as a sleeping bag, a closed cell sleeping mat and/or a Thermarest, a mug, spoon, knife, fork, bowl, water bottle, rock shoes, hiking boots, and a mix of clothing.
  • Provide a well-balanced, nutritious diet from, the time of departure to the time of return, which is tailored to suit the expedition requirements and/or any dietary/religious requirements possessed by members of the expedition party.
  • Guide aspirant mountaineers on expeditions of various grades in a structured, safe way.
  • Provide intensive training across the whole range of expedition activities. The visitor participates in all aspects of an expedition from helping choose a campsite to erecting a tent, cooking and cleaning dishes and pots. If the visitor does not know how, the tour guide will provide on the spot tuition with theoretical presentations as required followed up by practice. Sample programmes and prices

As a generalisation the experienced mountaineer, whether local or a visitor to this country would possess of the skills that would be required to have a mountain adventure in a relatively safe fashion. The uninitiated person, however, requiring a mountain adventure would need extensive training in all aspects of an expedition to ensure that the experience is rounded/complete and safe. We actively pursue a "learn as you go" style. We expect all visitors to pitch in and help. If the visitor does not know, the tour guide will help by demonstrating and involve them in the activity. All training is included in the cost of the expedition. Detailed programme activities, timing and prices can be provided on application. Bear in mind that a specific course or expedition can be configured to meet your requirements. The purpose of the enquiry form is to ascertain your interest.
